Year-Round Workshops for Girls

TechARTS for Girls (est. 1999) is a community action project that encourages girls from the city of Buffalo and Erie County to receive an affordable hands-on education in computers, technology and media literacy.

Registration must occur at least three days prior to the start date of workshop. Cancelations must take place one week before to receive a refund. No walk-ins accepted. Scholarships are available based on need.

September 9th – 30th
Saturdays, 10am-1pm


This workshop will explore the history and impact of collage on the art world and social justice. Using a mix of both Photoshop and Final Cut Pro X, students will learn to create and animate digital collages that explore topics that they want to make a statement about. This course focuses on post-production and animation and will be a benefit to anyone interested in animation or media arts. Participants will learn to:

  • Video Post Production
  • Key Frame Animation
  • Motion Graphics
  • Intro to Photoshop


Virtual Reality
October 7th – 28th
Saturdays, 10am-1pm


Many have asked the question: ‘what is virtual reality?’ Strangely enough, it turns out that the answer is a unanimous ‘anything you want it to be.’ This workshop will drop students directly into the word of VR, harnessing the powers of this rapidly expanding technology to manipulate time and space in ways that were never possible before. Participants will learn to:

  • Capture 360 video
  • Visualize space outside of the standard frame
  • Draw the viewer to key elements
  • Export projects for viewing on a headset or computer


The Commercial
November 4th – 25th
Saturdays, 10am-1pm


We all see ads on television or our computers every day, but do we ever really think about them and how they are produced? This workshop will explore one of the most popular and hidden forms of media, the commercial. Through an investigation of the history and evolution of this artform, students will work together to create their very own. Participants will learn:

  • The history of the commercial
  • Advertisement strategies and analysis
  • Basic video production & editing
  • Team-based production strategies
